GAMES NIGHT REVIEW
(Wed, Aug 19)

Due to a busier-than-usual filming schedule in the last week of this month, I've decided to cancel the next Games Night. So tonight's Games Night was our last.

As we enter the last 10 days of this production, I'd like to thank those who managed to come and support our filming project, not only
financially, but also with your involvement as cast and crew. This project would not have been possible without you. Thanks also to the
people who have supported me with free advice and equipment loans.

This project has truly benefited from your unselfish assistance. In the end, it's people like you who'll make zero-budget productions, not
only possible, but commonplace in the years to come.

Thanks again to everyone, and I dearly I hope that your free DVD of Everything is Possible - giving you credit for your involvement in
this production - will be a great promoter for you and help you get more work in the filming industry.

For those of you who haven't been involved yet, there's still some roles available. Please contact me at JamesTaris@gmail.com or
1391-797-5433 to see where I can include you.

GAMES NIGHT REVIEW
(Wed, Aug 12)

We just can't seem to keep the Scrabble away from you guys! Chris suggested having a Monopoly game one night. We'll need 4 players. I'll join in too. Any more takers?

We've reached the halfway mark in the filming, so now we're on the home stretch. Just 2 weeks to go.

Remember, coming to a Games Night fund-raiser is the first step towards clinching a role in the film, Everything is Possible.

Our next Games Night is on Wednesday, August 19 [details in red section below].

Hope to see you then,

James Taris
Founder Zero-Budget Films

GAMES NIGHT REVIEW
(Wed, Aug 5)

The cards came out again last night, but not for Poker (the card sharks must've stayed home). The games ranged from Flipper, a form of Solitaire (well, I had to play something while I was waiting for our first guests) ... to building card castles ... to Snap ... and finally to "Er Shi Si Dian" (Calculate 24), which is a hugely popular Chinese card game played by 2 people, but that can keep a large audience equally excited and involved for hours!

This is a mathematical brain game which challenges the players to create an equation that equals 24, using all 4 cards on the table. Generally speaking, both players start with 26 cards each and each flips 2 cards in for each round. The first one to find a correct equation wins and the loser collects those 4 cards. The winner is the player with no cards at the end.

Examples of winning equations are (showing the 4 cards on the table first):

2, 3, 7, J ... (11-7) x (3 x 2) = 24
2, 6, J, K ... (13-11) x (6 x 2) = 24

At first, it's a bit of a mind-bender, but once you get the hang of it, it's quite a logical game. We had so much fun that our game lasted until midnight!

Sushi and salted chips were shared around, and Chris Malone, true to form, came in with another nibble treat: buttered popcorn ... with a delicious aroma that must've lingered on in the apartment for hours!

Scrabble - the Games Night staple - for the first time yielded a high score of over 200 (any challengers out there?).

And, of course, more roles were given out as well. Remember, coming to a Games Night fund-raiser is the first step towards clinching a role in the film, Everything is Possible.

Our next Games Night is on Wednesday, August 12 [details in red section below].

Hope to see you then,

James Taris
Founder Zero-Budget Films

Some winning equations using the above cards:
(4x3) x (2x1) = 24 ... or (4+2) x (3+1) = 24 ... or (4x2) x (3x1) = 24 ... or (4 x 3 x 2) / 1 = 24 ... etc.
Can you think of any more solutions? Either way, maybe you'd like to try this game at our next Games Night.

DEMOSTHENES Scene
(Fri, July 31)

The transformation begins... James Taris took over 4 months to grow Odysseus' beard, but it took Stella - first-time hair stylist - just 40 minutes to trim it down into Demosthenes' goatee.

The Demosthenes scene - filmed in just one day - showed that the filming process for Everything is Possible was finally becoming streamlined. XiaoHong (cameraman) - who teaches filming to university students - was a key element to the success of this day's shoot, as were Stella (hair stylist and script manager) and Daniel (playing the role of Demosthenes' student).

XiaoHong, cameraman, finds an interesting angle as Demosthenes opens a bottle of wine.

Demosthenes (James Taris) takes his student (Daniel Bergbaum) through some public speaking exercises.

Daniel Bergbaum - a real life Toastmaster in Shanghai - plays the role of Demosthenes' public speaking student.

Stella Luo, hair stylist and script manager, completed the transformation of James ... from Odysseus to Demosthenes.

James Taris is Demosthenes.

GAMES NIGHT REVIEW

(Wed, July 29)

Well, we finally got the cards out last night ... and the chips ... and played POKER! (not for cash) It was an education for some of us, but still lots of fun with one pool worth about 2000 rmb! - pretend money :-)

Scrabble still had it's followers with some high-scoring words adding excitement, at least for the scorer.

Apart from the freeflow softdrinks, coffee and tea, sharing food and alcohol was much appreciated by everyone. Chris Malone (playing the role of CEO) continued his self-appointed role of Master Chef by providing a couple of trays of delicious stuffed mushrooms for everyone. BYO beer was also shared around, which was drunk "neat" or, more popularly, drunk as shandies (beer mixed with lemonade). And the cappuccino whipper (recently acquired from IKEA) got the thumbs up too, delivering a smooth hot drink using Mocca coffee.

Those not playing still chatted happily amongst themselves.

And even though I hadn't had time to edit the film shot from last week, we all got to see some of the raw footage (selected from 100 minutes of film). The Odysseus scene has now been completed and this week we'll film 2 more scenes: Demosthenes and Archimedes. So they'll be shown at the Games Night next week. Each scene will translate to about 10 minutes of realtime movietime, so we'll have about 30% of the movie completed by next Wednesday ... with or without the extras ... so if you want to be in these scenes (we need guys for Demosthenes and girls for Archimedes) CONTACT ME NOW on JamesTaris@gmail.com.

So come along on Wednesday, August 5. Bring a friend, or two. It's a fund-raiser, so every rmb counts. And once your friends are here they'll automatically get roles (CAST and CREW) in Everything is Possible.

Oh ... and, if you're a drinker, BYO alcohol ... and if you're an eater, BYO food.

GAMES NIGHT REVIEW
(Wed, July 22)

Scrabble was the main games attraction again for our Games Night revellers last night. But, yet again, most people were just happy to drink and chat amongst themselves - which, by the way, became more and more lively as the night grew longer!

Everyone enjoyed the film clips of the Terrible Tavern Trio and Zeus (2 of the scenes shot last week). Christian was sick on Tuesday, so the Odysseus scene will be completed today (Thursday).

Our next Fund-Raiser will be held next Wednesday, July 29, 6-10pm [see details below].
Please come and support Zero-Budget Films, book your shooting date, and enjoy a fun social night with other Z-BFers.

We need 5 more music students for this scene., if you're interested, make sure to come to the next Games Night to book your film session.

GAMES NIGHT REVIEW
(Wed, July 15)

Scrabble was the main games attraction for our Games Night revellers last night. But most people were just happy to drink and chat amongst themselves.

A surprise attraction was Mario (the almost) Magnificent - a professional magician from Australia who'll now also be participating in our film ... not as a magician (though he's awesome at that!) but as one of the Terrible Tavern Trio who threaten Odysseus in the recently updated version of Everything is Possible. That scene has been booked for shooting on Friday (7am - 5pm) so expect to see some photos (and maybe even a video clip) in the near future.

Our next Fund-Raiser will be held next Wednesday, July 22, 6-10pm [see details below].
Please come and support Zero-Budget Films, book your shooting date, and enjoy a fun social night with other Z-BFers.
